Stuart J.M. Collinson, Ph.D.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Collinson is a partner at Forward Ventures. Previously he was Chairman,
Chief Executive Officer and President of Aurora Biosciences Corporation (acquired by Vertex Pharmaceuticals
Inc). Before Aurora, Dr. Collinson held senior management positions at GlaxoWellcome, including Vice
President of Gastrointestinal Diseases, and at Baxter International Inc.
Dr. Collinson is a director of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. and several private companies.
Dr. Collinson was awarded an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from
the University of Oxford.

David Urso
Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel
Prior to joining Tioga, Mr. Urso was
a Principal at Forward Ventures. He has a scientific background in molecular immunology
and is an attorney with experience in corporate securities and corporate partnering
transactions in the life science industry.
Before joining Forward Ventures, Mr. Urso was Director of Corporate Development
and Legal Affairs at DNA Sciences, Inc. Mr. Urso worked as an attorney in the
corporate securities and technology transfer groups at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati LLP
and at Cooley Godward LLP; and as a bench scientist at SmithKline Beecham and the University
of Pennsylvania Medical School.
Mr. Urso received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in Molecular Biology and Philosophy
from Reed College.

Allen Mangel, M.D., Ph.D.
Chief Medical Officer (consultant)
Dr. Allen Mangel is a gastroenterologist and vice
president of RTI Health Solutions. Following completion of his medical training, Dr. Mangel did
his internship and residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center and then
completed his gastroenterology fellowship also at Duke. Following completion of his formal
training, he remained on the faculty in the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology,
at Duke for three years. Dr. Mangel also has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, where his research
focused on control of electrical and mechanical activity in gastrointestinal smooth muscle.
Dr. Mangel has extensive pharmaceutical industry experience, including time at GlaxoSmithKline and Merck & Co. As the Head of Gastroenterology Clinical Development at GlaxoSmithKline, Dr. Mangel led the clinical development of drugs targeting gastrointestinal diseases, most notably irritable bowel syndrome. He has over 80 publications.
Gareth A. Hicks, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Scientific and Clinical
Affairs
Dr. Hicks’s research in the fields of
neurogastroenterology and neuroscience has focused primarily on
irritable bowel syndrome and pain. Prior to joining Tioga, Dr. Hicks
worked in the business development team at Ikaria, Inc. He was
previously Head of US Clinical Development and Medical Affairs in
Gastroenterology and Urology for Novartis Pharmaceuticals
Corporation and prior to joining Novartis was Head of
Gastrointestinal Disease Research for GlaxoSmithKline.
Before joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Hicks was a Wellcome
Trust Fellow at the The Vollum Institute in Portland, Oregon. Dr.
Hicks received M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacology from the
University of Cambridge.
